Why Train Your Dog?

Obedience training is by far the most important aspect of caring for a dog. Yet, for many dogs, training seems to never happen. Most humans have trouble "speaking dog" very well, if at all.

A big part of learning how to train your dog is learning how to communicate so your dog understands you.  Effectively communicating with your dog just means your behavior demonstrates what you want from your dog. Once your behavior changes, your dog will understand what you want.  You and your dog will be much happier.

Trained dogs can be given freedom in your home and are not restricted to living alone.
Many "backyard dogs" have behavioral issues related to very little socialization.  Dogs are social animals that require companionship to feel secure, happy, and healthy. A well trained dog can be part of your family and does not have to be isolated. Confining a well trained dog isn't necessary. Dogs that are trained are a pleasure to be with!

Destructive and annoying behavior problems are rarely an issue with a well trained dog that lives inside your home. Some people believe their dog will learn on their own.  In a way they're right, but, what most dogs learn on there own, most people don't like.
  English Bulldog
The Bulldog is a member of the AKC's Non-Sporting group.  The name "bull" appears in "Bulldog" due to the breed's former connection with bull baiting.  Bulldogs can weigh up to 50 pounds or more! The perfect Bulldog must be of medium size and smooth coat; with heavy, thick-set, low-swung body, massive short-faced head, wide shoulders and sturdy limbs. The general appearance and attitude should suggest great stability, vigor and strength. Bulldogs originated in Great Britain.

How can unwanted behaviors be avoided or changed?  How can we encourage behaviors we like?  The answer lies in training that doesn't involve force, fear, submission or intimidation.  Rather, training should focus on teaching the animal self-control using the same principles used by trainers at Sea World, and other similar institutions. What works for training Orca Whales and Dolphins most definitely will work for your dog!

What about older dogs?  Older dogs can still learn.  It may take longer to rehabilitate an older dog, but you can teach an old dog new tricks.

People delay training their dog for many reasons, but the number one reason I hear is, "I don't have time".  I have good news!  In reality, training should last only a few minutes at a time. Training sessions that last too long can cause your dog to avoid training, and you will burnout.  Instead, training sessions should be short and fun for the dog and for you!  You may be thinking, "Yeah, I've heard this before".  Call me and find out how you can make training enjoyable.  Put an end to the frustrations of a dog that doesn't listen and that exhibits problem behaviors. You may be wondering if I teach using harsh methods. ABSOLUTELY NOT! I will teach you how to train your dog using the same scientific methods used by top animal trainers and behaviorists.

The number one reason dogs end up in shelters is for lack of training.  Training your dog should not be 'optional'.  Would you rather spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars replacing furniture, clothing, home and landscaping repairs, and possibly medical bills?  In some cases, dog owners have been sued because of their out of control dogs.

Training your dog is great way to form a life long bond.  Many people take great pride in their trained dogs and go on to earn a Canine Good Citizen certificate and more!  Earning a CGC certificate can be the first step into the sport of Agility, Rally Obedience, or even Obedience Trials.  Some go on to volunteer in Animal-Assisted Therapy and Animal-Assisted Crisis Response.  You can do it too.  Don't be afraid to try!
