Canine Good Citizen Program

The American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) Program, started in 1989, and is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. And, this program is not limited to pure bred dogs only!

As a Certified Pet Dog Trainer and Approved CGC Evaluator, I am committed to improving the relationship between people and their dogs, and ultimately the community at-large.  One way I do this is by encouraging dog owners to continue training so that together, you and your dog can pass the CGC test.

CGC Preparation training will help you and your dog prepare for each exercise of the CGC test. The test exercises are as follows:

1.  Meeting a friendly stranger.

2.  Sitting politely for petting.

3.  Appearance and grooming.

4.  Out for a walk (walking on a loose leash).

5.  Walking through a crowd.

6.  Sit and Down on Command/Staying in Place.

7.  Coming when called.

8.  Reaction to another dog.

9.  Reactions to distractions.

10. Supervised Separation.
